Electro-optics engineers are determining the feasibility of using terahertz (THz) technology for defense applications under SBIR contracts with the U.S. Navy and Air Force.

George F. Smoot of LBNL and UC Berkeley, and John C. Mather of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, have been awarded the 2006 Nobel Prize for physics “for their discovery of the blackbody form and anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background radiation.”
