Postdoc position: THz plasmonics - Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter
In the group Nanowire Photonics we are looking for an experimental PhD student or postdoc to work in the area of THz plasmonics. The goal of this research is to investigate the propagation of THz (far-infrared) surface plasmon polaritons SPPs at the interface between a conductor and a dielectric and to define novel approaches for SPPs waveguiding and active THz plamonics. The work will combine numerical simulations, fabrication of microstructures and measurements using THz-time-domain spectroscopy. This project is done in collaboration with Philips Research and several European research groups.
Recently, a Center for Nanophotonics was established at the FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics in Amsterdam. In this center, over 40 researchers work together in a joint nanophotonics research program. One of the center’s group (Nanowire Photonics group) is stationed at Philips Research at the High-Tech Campus in Eindhoven (The Netherlands). The research topics of this group are photonics of nanowires and plasmonics.

Required education/skills:Doctorate
The position is intended as full-time (38 hrs / week, 12 months / year) appointment in the service of Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM) for the duration of two years (postdoc) or four years (PhD). After successful completion of the PhD research a PhD degree will be granted. Several courses are offered, specially developed for PhD-students.
