Major Duties:
Responsible for performing experimental physics research using the Beam Physics Branch’s laser systems: the T-cubed laser, the TFL laser, and other high power solid-state CW, Q-switched or mode-locked laser systems. High-power laser experiments include the study of the effects of ultrashort laser pulses on optical materials, ultrashort pulse laser propagation in water, underwater laser acoustic source development, high power laser propagation in the atmosphere, and the interaction of high power ultrashort laser pulses with plasmas and electron beams. Maintains expertise in plasma physics, pulsed power, laser physics, optics, high-speed electro-optics, electronics, acoustics, hydrodynamics, electromagnetic detector technology, and microwave/terahertz electronics, to carry out the assigned research and development tasks.Directs and coordinates experimental research projects at the level of a principal investigator. Develops new experimental programs within the Branch. Represents the Branch at technical meetings related to the research and development of the Branch. Documents his/her research and development achievements in scientific and technical journal articles and presentations to professional organizations or topical conferences.
