Optical Engineer, Electro-Optic Business Unit
Position Summary:
Based on a combination of in-house developed materials and University of Washington licensed technology, Lumera has developed high speed, low driving voltage electro-optic devices that can be used in interconnects, high speed communication, and THz generation and detection applications.
The Optical Engineer will be responsible for optical and electrical testing of optical components fabricated out of polymers and other materials, for understanding where the problems are and feeding back information to other segments in the system/component fabrication process.

Education Level Desired:
Graduate Degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar field.
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for:
o Performing tests as insertion loss, driving voltage, extinction ratio, S21, S11, EO bandwidth etc on electro-optic components from DC to 100 GHz.
o Understanding what the problems are and feed information asap down the line.
o Analyzing statistical data and decide what needs to be improved and the method for doing that, after discussions with the team.
o Developing methods for fiber coupling and minimizing coupling loss between the fiber and the waveguide.
o Developing methods for stress relief between the fiber and the chip, in the package.
o Developing software that minimizes testing time.
o Buying components necessary for test bed update or new experiments that are being performed.
o Performing new experiments in parallel with routine tests for debugging problems.
o Collecting data in a database and create weekly reports to the team.
Qualifications / Experience:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
o Proven success in testing optical components (optics and RF).
o In depth knowledge of waveguide optical tests.
o In depth knowledge of RF testing.
o LabView programming skills.
o Ability to effectively present information to the team.

o Excellent verbal and writing skills
