THz Imaging Engineer/Scientist - AEgis
The AEgis Technologies Group, Inc. is an expanding, high-tech engineering company committed to helping our customers succeed by delivering products and services of exceptional quality. AEgis specializes in modeling and simulation, microsystems and electro-optic technology development, software development, systems engineering, and test and evaluation. The MEMS & Photonics Division is comprised of scientists, engineers, and technical staff, co-located at Redstone Arsenal, AL and conducts research and development for military and aerospace systems. We offer very competitive salaries and generous benefits intended to promote the personal well-being and professional development of every employee. A relocation package is available.
Description
Research and development activities will include building hardware and control systems for THz source and detector; molecular spectroscopy in non-cooperative environments (ambient atmosphere, cluttered by obscurants, non-equilibrium states), passive and active stand-off imaging of THz emitters and absorbers; and non-destructive imaging of materials and targets through various obfuscating coatings, films, and overlayers. Applications include imaging of obscured objects, including non-destructive testing of material defects, using resonant excitation of submillimeter features. This person will work with a team of scientists in parallel research related to stand-off and point detection and imaging of chemical and biological agents, toxins, and trace gases using passive and active techniques. This team will also be responsible for honest broker research to assess the practical potential for THz radiation to solve other problems of military interest, including autonomous agent detection; seeing through walls and obscurants; stealthy, high bandwidth communications; collision avoidance; and advanced radar.
Requirements
Masters degree in Engineering or Physics with emphasis on THz imaging and/or spectroscopy is necessary. PhD with concentration in THz imaging is preferred. Hands-on experience in THz source development and imaging techniques is highly preferred. Technical knowledge in the areas of THz propagation, atmospheric effects, image processing, and instrumentation is a significant plus. Research will focus on development of a mobile THz platform that will be capable of spectroscopic imaging in the 0.1 – 1.0 THz spectral region.
