As part of an EPSRC Programme a 24 month post doctoral research associate position is available to investigate active and passive mode locking in Quantum Cascade Laser sources; operating in the frequency range around 2.5 THz. Initially, this work will require the commissioning of a femtosecond pulsed laser system for the photoconductive detection of THz quantum cascade laser pulses. The project will also involve the study of different QCL active region designs to optimize performance with the aim of realizing a broadband (~1THz) mode locked THz source. We seek candidates with a strong background in femtosecond pulsed laser systems. Experience in pulsed THz photoconductive techniques and/or THz optics would be an advantage.
†The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance and the post may, subject to the availability of funding, be renewed for a further period or periods.
