Grade: NRAS
Salary: £20,044 - £30,002 pa
Limit of tenure: 18 months*
Start Date: May 2006
As part of the DTI Technology Programme an 18 month post doctoral research associate position is available in conjunction with TeraView Ltd to develop Quantum Cascade Laser sources operating in the frequency range below 2 THz, for applications in security screening. The ultimate goal is the realization of lasers with ultra-low current densities, i.e. ultra-low power consumption, for continuous wave operation with portable closed cycle coolers. The position will involve undertaking research both in the Semiconductor Physics group of the Cavendish Laboratory and TeraView Ltd. This work will require the fabrication and testing of state of the art THz unipolar semiconductor lasers. We seek candidates with a strong background in III-V semiconductor device processing and characterisation. Experience in semiconductor laser processing and characterisation would be an advantage. Previous applicants need not apply.
*The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance and the post may, subject to the availability of funding, be renewed for a further period or periods.
