SPEC 2006: Shedding Light on Disease: Optical Diagnosis for the New Millenium

You are invited to participate in the 4th International Symposium “Shedding Light on Disease: Optical Diagnosis for the New Millenium”.
Heidelberg, Germany, May 20 - May 24, 2006.
Spectroscopic techniques such as infrared and Raman spectroscopy have attracted tremendous interest in recent years to develop efficient technologies and opportunities in biomedicine for various fields such as histopathology, single cell analysis, cytology, microbiology, clinical diagnosis, disease identification and guidance of therapy.
The topics of the conference include but are not confined to:
• Concepts and overview of biomedical vibrational spectroscopy in medicine
• Infrared and Raman imaging in histopathology
• Vibrational spectroscopy in diagnostics
• Biomedical vibrational spectroscopy and imaging of single cells
• Drug-cell interaction studied by vibrational spectroscopies
• Pathogens and infectious diseases
• Vibrational clinical chemistry, analysis of biofluids
• Data evaluation techniques for biomedical spectroscopy
Methodologies of the conference include but are not confined to:
• NIR and MID-IR spectroscopy
• Raman spectroscopy
• NIR and MID-IR micro-spectroscopy
• Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS)
• Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS)
• Near-field infrared and Raman micro-spectroscopy
• MID-IR and THZ-laser spectroscopy
• Other spectroscopic techniques
Format of the Symposium:
• invited presentations
• oral presentations
• guided poster sessions
The Symposium will take place at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg from May 20-24, 2006.
Heidelberg, the old romantic city and the modern city of science with the oldest university in Germany is located in the south of the country. For those traveling by plane, Heidelberg can be reached best directly from Frankfurt international airport by train and, although more distant to Heidelberg, also from Munich and Stuttgart airports. For planning your itinerary, please note that at this time the world soccer games 2006 in Germany will already have commenced, so early reservations are recommended.
For recommended accommodations available near to the Campus and Conference Centre as well as hotels in the city please refer to the website which is updated regularly. There will also be an outstanding social program including a conference dinner in the Heidelberg Castle and a boat trip on the river “Neckar” providing beautiful and romantic views of Heidelberg and the Neckar valley landscape. Other events offered by the old town of Heidelberg will set an inspiring frame to the conference.
